The edible fruits are peppery with a subtly sweet taste, but the seeds are toxic and should not be consumed. Used in kitchens around the world, the small, slender leaves have a strong citrus, anise, and lemongrass flavor. When cooked, the flavor becomes milder, having a slightly pungent flavor and a nutty aroma.
